LAUNE x Hannah Furst
Hannah Furst brings a thoughtful, introspective lens to fashion and creativity, guided by feeling, memory, and a strong sense of self. She has a natural eye for putting together compelling outfits and creations, balancing simplicity with something slightly unexpected. Drawn to subtle details and emotional depth, her perspective feels both intuitive and quietly distinctive. Below, she shares more on what inspires her, how she creates, and what’s next.
1. Tell me about yourself.
I’m someone who’s deeply drawn to fashion and the creative world, but more than that the meaning behind it. I see clothing and art as storytelling and every piece and detail tells the world something about you. I’m quite a curious and observant person and I think that shapes how I move through the world. I’m definitely a huge dreamer and I think there’s so much beauty in our small everyday realities that people might forget to see.
2. What is your LAUNE (mood)?
Moody, introspective and slightly messy but always intentional. I really love simplicity with something a bit off beat be that in fashion or your personality. It gives the idea of something never being overdone but not accidental either.
3. What inspires you?
I’d say emotions and depth inspire me more than anything. Often overlooked emotions, memories or small moments. I’m drawn to the idea that everything carries a story whether it’s a person, place or object. I also find a lot of inspiration in people who have a strong sense of personal style, not perfect but shows me who they are.
4. What are three staple items that every closet should have and why?
A great pair of black pants, simple silhouettes with something that feels slightly unexpected, they ground an outfit but still make a statement. Next would be a go to outer layer, a big bold but still somewhat simple jacket - for me it would have to be a Mongolian style fur coat. Last items a tough one and might sound simple but a good simple top, whether that be a good tank or t-shirt, I’m a big believer in basics being the star of the show and little accessories or having a statement item to build on the base of your outfit.
5. What drives your creative process and content?
It’s definitely very feeling-led, I’m usually driven by a mood, memory or a movement that just sticks with me. I like letting something come to me naturally, when you force an idea it never feels like it works. I’ve gotten my best ideas when I’ve let go of trying to ‘figure it out’.
6. What do you love about Cape Town?
The contrast definitely. It has such incredible natural beauty and places to escape to, while still having this amazing buzz of the city life and the fact that no two people are the same. You’ve got people from all different walks of life and cultures which makes for such a strong sense of individuality and the ability to broaden your views on life further than just what you know.
7. What’s next for you?
I’m currently finishing my final year of fashion school, which is quite a defining moment. We’re spending our final year building our graduate brand which I really feel speaks so greatly to my personality. After that I’m hoping to place myself into some new environments for a bit, ideally abroad. I want to meet new people, experience new places and continue to shape my voice. A big dream of mine is to hopefully one day soon land my feet in New York!
