LAUNE x Seaav
Seaav is a coastal activewear brand founded by Mckenna Haz, built on the belief that movement, community, and caring for the planet can go hand in hand. Inspired by a childhood spent on the shores of Vancouver Island, the brand combines elevated essentials with a deep commitment to ocean conservation and intentional living. Rooted in a relaxed coastal perspective, Seaav extends beyond activewear through wellness events and a community centered on connection, adventure, and spending more time outdoors. Below, Mckenna shares more on the story behind Seaav, what inspires her, and what's next.
1. Tell me about yourself and Seaav. How was it created?
I'm Mckenna Haz, the founder of Seaav. I grew up on Vancouver Island, where the ocean was really my playground. It shaped who I am and gave me a deep appreciation for nature and community.
When I moved to Connecticut for university, I took an introductory entrepreneurship class that challenged us to solve a real problem. As I researched the activewear industry, I realized there wasn't a brand that combined high-performance apparel with meaningful ocean impact and community. I wanted to build something bigger than clothing, one that inspires people to move their bodies, spend more time outdoors, and leave the world a little better than they found it.
That's how Seaav was born. Every product is designed to take you from the beach to the studio, and every purchase helps remove ocean-bound plastic through our partnership with Plastic Bank. Today, we're also building community through our Make Waves Wellness Club and partnering with brands like Universal Studios to bring our mission to even more people.
2. What is the LAUNE (mood) of Seaav?
Effortless, adventurous, and grounded.
Seaav is for people who love sunrise swims, coffee after a workout, weekend road trips, and feeling connected to nature. It's relaxed coastal energy with elevated design.
3. What inspires you?
The ocean inspires me every single day.
I'm also inspired by entrepreneurs who build businesses with purpose, by women creating their own paths, and by the people in our community who show up for our events looking to meet new friends, move their bodies, and try something new.
Those human connections are incredibly motivating.
4. What does the creative process look like?
Every collection starts with a feeling rather than a trend.
We'll think about a place, a season, or a story we want to tell. Then we build the color palette, fabrics, and silhouettes around that emotion.
We're constantly asking, "Would someone wear this from a morning walk to brunch to a workout?" If the answer is yes, we're on the right track.
Storytelling is just as important as the product itself.
5. Tell me about the Make Waves Wellness Club.
Make Waves started because I wanted to create the kind of community I was looking for after moving to a new city (Boston) in my early twenties.
Today, we host wellness events across North America, from yoga, run clubs, and pilates to sound baths, mindfulness experiences, and other social wellness events designed to bring people together through movement and connection.
It's become so much bigger than activewear. It's about helping people make meaningful friendships, spend more time outside, and build healthier lifestyles together.
6. How do you want people to feel when they wear Seaav?
Confident. Comfortable. Connected.
I want someone to put on Seaav and feel like they're ready for whatever the day brings, whether that's traveling, working out, grabbing coffee with friends, or watching the sunset on the beach.
It's really about feeling like your most authentic self.
7. What's next for you and Seaav?
You'll see new collection drops every other month, more incredible collaborations, and continued storytelling around ocean conservation through our Women of the Sea series, where we highlight inspiring women creating positive change in and around our oceans.
We're also expanding Make Waves into new cities, bringing more wellness experiences to communities across North America while continuing to build meaningful connections through movement and adventure.
Our goal has always been bigger than activewear, it's about creating a lifestyle that inspires people to make waves in their own communities and feel connected to both people and the planet.
Rapid Fire:
1. Describe your style in three words.
Coastal. Timeless. Effortless.
2. Favorite Seaav piece?
Tough question.. But my fav right now is our 4’’ flow fold-over shorts!
3. Dream collab?

4. Three staple items every closet should have?
In the summer, I’d say a great oversized crewneck (like our Dune Crew for cooler summer nights), a classic white tee, and a great pair of linen pants. In the colder months, I’m all about layering: think of a strong everyday legging (like our Liftline Legging), a heavyweight sweatshirt or big knitted sweater, and a great coat you can throw over everything.
