LAUNE x Braided

Braided is a New York–based challah company that offers a fresh, thoughtful take on tradition, guided by instinct and a genuine love of food. What began with teaching herself how to make one thing well has grown into something more personal, blending curiosity, culture, and a sense of connection. At its core, Braided is about bringing people together and finding meaning in the rituals that one returns to again and again. Below, founder Tara Satnick shares more on what inspired Braided and what she’s looking forward to next.

1. Tell me about yourself and Braided.

People always assume that I am a baker because I have a challah business, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. I don’t know how to cook or bake anything except challah. I taught myself how to make challah only because I fell in love with the idea of a challah subscription.

With all that being said, I have always appreciated a great meal and work full time for Infatuation, the restaurant recommendation platform,  so food is constantly on my mind.

2. What is your LAUNE (mood)?

I’m feeling pretty in touch with the universe these days. I don’t know how to explain it, but my intuition has been steering the ship.  My life philosophy recently has been, “okay, I can’t predict how everything will turn out, but I know I’ll never regret being true to myself.”

3. What inspires you?

Honestly, NYC Uber drivers inspire me. I’m always amazed by their stories. Just last week, I met a driver who was an orphan and moved to New York from Romania specifically so he could make enough money to start his own orphanage one day.

There are hundreds of stories like this – people leaving everything behind to pursue something greater.  I find their courage to be very inspiring.

4. What do you love about New York?

It’s so walkable and spontaneous. Every time I leave my apartment I feel like there’s a world of endless possibilities out there.

5. What are you looking forward to in 2026?

I really want to host a Havdalah party this year. Havdalah is an amazing Jewish tradition that so many people have never experienced.  It happens every Saturday night and involves spices, wine and a ~braided~ candle.  I find the whole thing to be extremely chic and we should really do it more

6. What’s next for you?

I would love to make a highly produced, short film for Braided. I have a vision of this cinematic Shabbat dinner scene with four generations at the table and everyone passing the challah around talking about their highlight of the week. I think it would be really iconic.
